Starburst And Cat Eyes – A Strange Brew

Stars Quilt Patterns

I am still working away on the Halloween quilt.  Almost there, but not quite.  Remember couple of weeks ago I said I was going to make the knitting-inspired stars for my Halloween quilt?  Well, here they are.  I reduced three of the star quilt patterns to 5″ and made two copies of each.  I love the Aran Star too much, so that one is staying as a 10″ block.  Although these  beautiful star prints are technically Halloween fabrics from the Black Cat Crossing fabric line, I can’t help but think that they would make a beautiful kids’ quilt.

Cat lover that I am, I had to incorporate something with a cat motif in it.  If you ever had a cat who sleeps in the bedroom with you, I know you have woken up  at least once in the middle of the night to a pair of eyes staring at you out of the dark.  That’s what got me into drawing the Cat Eyes quilt pattern.  After all it is All Hallows Eve, and I had to add a little bit of spook to the quilt.

That being said, these kitty eye colours are modelled after my own bumbling kitties and they are not spooky at all.   I think this block would make a great pillow or two as part of Halloween decoration.  A little spooky fun is always good for Halloween!

Have fun!

The Black Cat Crossing fabrics would do fine for a kid’s quilt. They look pretty versatile to me. I love your blocks, including those cat eyes!

Love how those stars go together. With those fabrics they could, and probably would, be used all year round at my house! :) Great cat eyes too. Perfect for a black cat blog hop!

Those eyes are scary and gorgeous at the same time! I’ve never made a paper-pieced block but I downloaded your pattern in my Crafsty account. I may try this method soon…

I also love your stars… The way you inserted strips of beige fabric (so beautiful with its star motif in a darker tone).

I was already following you on Craftsy and now I follow you on Pinterest. I don’t want to miss any of your beautiful creations.

Oh I love your star blocks Soma! I agree, that fabric doesn’t really scream Halloween (no pun intended) and would make a very good kids’ quilt. I’m not a cat person but I do love those cat eyes. Purrfect fabric (okay, I couldn’t resist that pun) :o)
