Occasionally I take part in the BBC swap group at flickr where we make tiny 3″ quilt blocks based on a theme. I have been feeling a little whimsical lately; the recently-finished Spring Kites mini quilt is a good example of that. So this month’s Woodland theme suited me perfectly. I designed a Magic Fairy Door quilt pattern with a little sconce on the side.
Which magic door would you open today?
I made ten spring-time fairy doors for the swap. I couldn’t decide on naming the block “Magic Door” or “Fairy Door”, so I decided to combine the two and call it “Magic Fairy Door”. I know it’s a bit redundant, but as I mentioned earlier – whimsical!
Both my husband and I still love the wonders and dangers of fairy tales. We thought it would be fun to use a pillow cover made from this pattern for the guest bed in his work room. Since it’s a 10″ block, I added a little more detail by adding a door frame to the original design.
I also wanted a night forest block for the room because night really makes me think of moonlit flighty fairies. I am definitely going to hand quilt this one.
I wonder what adventure awaits me behind that door!
