Paper Piecing Tutorial

Schoolhouse Paper Piecing Quilt Block Pattern

After much thinking about what would be a good block to use for a tutorial, I decided on the schoolhouse block. When I am learning a new piece of music, it’s a little easier for me if I have heard it played before. I figured the same would hold true for learning a new method of quilting as well. You have probably already made a schoolhouse block before the traditional way. We are going to paper piece this block today.

The Schoolhouse block has both straight lines and angles, so you can learn how to sew both with this one block. That’s the other reason I chose this block for the tutorial.

I took well over 150 photos when I was making this block. I used around 60 of them for this tutorial. I love photos when following a tutorial and I didn’t want you to miss any steps. In the interest of us not growing old waiting for the page to load, I made a nifty tutorial PDF file for you to download. This way you don’t have to be connected to the internet to follow the tutorial. Along with the tutorial PDF file, you will also have two PDF pattern files to make a 6″ and a 12″ block.

One request from me to you, please remember to recycle the pieces of paper once you take them out of your block. It’s nice to do our part to keep our world beautiful.

I hope you find this tutorial useful and I would love to see you venture into the world of paper piecing. Any feedback is most welcome and definitely let me know if you have any questions.
