I finally finished the last block for the music mini quilt. I got a few requests for a piano quilt pattern and I play the piano myself, so I decided to make a paper pieced grand piano.
I went through a few iterations of the pattern, specially with the keys area. I didn’t want to cut that area randomly. I also like to minimize the amount of lining up I have to do when I sew sections together. That’s what took me the longest to figure out and I am pretty happy with the final design. I would consider this an intermediate pattern because there quite a few small pieces in there. I had to keep them small so the piano wouldn’t look too boxy.
The other two blocks for my mini quilt –
I love to play my little violin. The very first musical instrument pattern I made was this violin quilt pattern. The violin can be made all on its own, or with the bow. I even included an alternate to paper piecing the f-holes.
After going back and forth I figured what else could accompany a violin better than a Soulful Cello. It was very much like the violin, but without the chin rest and much larger. I didn’t include the bow in the cello quilt pattern because no matter where I placed it, it was interfering with the harmony of the block. So at the end I decided to leave it out.
Just like the violin, there is very little lining up on this cello pattern. There is also an alternate to paper piecing the f-holes.
