Mushroom Loving Bookworm Embroidery Pattern

If you have been following me for a while, you probably know of my love of books.   I already had this picture of a bookworm reading on top of a whimsical fairytale mushroom garden.  Naturally, I had to jump in when I saw this month’s swap group theme was mushrooms.  I made a sketch, showed it to the girls with choice of colors and let them pick their mushrooms.  I started each one with the mushroom color and picked the other colors as I went along.  I am not very good with embroidery, so this also provided a perfect excuse to practice.  These are 3″ blocks.

I like mixing of light and dark shades of floss.  The mushrooms and the stems are made with lighter and darker shades of the same color.  I also love to add gold with red to get a glimmer.  The tiny mushrooms are made with just the light color floss and light green for the stems.  This one is a green mushroom, so it got a light blue stem.

You will notice that some of them are reading green books and some red.  I was trying to think of book colors and noticed these two books sitting on the top of TV cabinet in the living room.  Problem solved!!

As I was working on the last couple of blocks, my husband asked if one could be made into a larger version because he wanted me to make one for him.  How could I refuse?!  He spends long hours at his desk working, so I will make him a lightly-quilted mug-rug.  I already started working on it.

If you are a bookworm like me or have one in your life, I have the 7″ bookworm embroidery pattern available on Craftsy and Etsy.  I am sure you can do a much better job with this pattern than I have.

Happy Sewing,
