I love listening to the dramatization of Lord Of The Rings done by BBC. One of my many favorite parts of the story is when Gimli so proudly talks about the olden days of Moria.
A king he was on carven throne
In many-pillared halls of stone
With golden roof and silver floor,
And runes of power upon the door.
The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
There shone for ever fair and bright.
If you haven’t heard already, Lilja has organized a Lord Of The Rings Block Of The Month called Not All Who Wonder Are Lost at Fandom In Stitches. This month it’s my turn again and it’s the first of the three big blocks to come.
When I thought of making a Moria quilt pattern, the poem is the first thing that jumped to my mind, not the evil in Moria. I modeled this block after Alan Lee’s painting where a shaft of sunlight shone through the forest of pillars.

Every first Friday of the month, a few of the following seven designers will be sharing blocks they designed for this occasion - Breanne Cremean, Regina Grewe, myself, Michelle Thompson, Schenley Pilgram, Jennifer Ofenstein, and Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir.
You can download all the previous patterns at Fandom In Stitches – Not All Who Wander Are Lost
I hope you enjoy the journey!
Have a great weekend!

This is beautiful! I am wondering, though, which ones are the pillars – the dark or the light parts?
Thanks, Linda! A shaft of sunlight falls through the pillars in the hall. There are some black pillars in the front in shadow and some lit up ones in the back. Hope this makes sense.

This is so lovely! I seem to always say that about your patterns, and I haven’t made one yet! There’s something wrong with this picture! (I really want to make the weeping angel, but haven’t quite talked myself into trying it yet! It SO beautiful, but looks a bit intense to make.)
Thank you so much! With your sewing expertise, I am sure you will make a beautiful block if you gave the weeping angel a try :)
