Guitar Quilt Pattern

I shelved a few projects last year due to the Doctor Who Quilt Along, and now it’s time to pull them out, dust them off and finish them.  One of those projects is my Rock and Roll music quilt for which I worked on the 10″ x 20″ guitar quilt block last week.  I called it Guitar Solo because I have this intense need of listening to any guitar solo repeatedly!!

When I was shopping for a guitar,  I got super lucky to live really close to the Guitar Center in Hollywood.  Among other really good guitars, they had an used Fender Stratocaster.   Since I really like the sound of the Fender over others, I ended up getting that one.  My very first guitar is American-made, and believe me, I am still stoked about it.  So of course my guitar block is modeled after my own guitar in the Starburst colour scheme.

I actually pieced the frets.  I wouldn’t recommend it.  The process itself was not hard since I cut long strips of fabric when I work on such things, but it took a very long time. Embroidery would have been a much saner choice.

While I was playing with the pattern, I made two body styles and two head styles.  The guitar can also be made with one or two colours.  Mix and match, and I can make four guitars from the same pattern.  I am so tempted to make all four!!  Another project for another day…the list keeps on growing.

The Guitar quilt pattern is now also available on my Etsy shop along with the other musical instruments quilt patterns.  It is easier than it looks.  The pattern is written with very little lining up of the sections.  Now that I am done with the guitar and the drums quilt blocks, I have just one more block to design and the quilt top will be done.
