Doctor Who QAL – Werewolf And A Giveaway

Tooth And Claw Werewolf Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

“We shall dine at seven and talk some more of this wolf. After all, there is a full moon tonight.”

I used to be ridiculously afraid of the darkness and nightfall until only a couple of years ago.   Looking back, it is strange to think that Tooth and Claw is now one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes.  When I am home alone, I often run it in the background or watch it right before going to sleep!

My husband asked me one day why I like Tooth And Claw so much.  Without even spending a moment of thought, I blurted out all the reasons I could think of.  The setting is a Scottish moor, there’s chivalry, courage, honor, a puzzle, “stars and magic”, and my favorite quote – “We’re in a library! Books! The best weapons in the world!”,  you get the general idea!  I had to include the Werewolf in the Doctor Who quilt along.

For the Werewolf Quilt Block you will need –

1 fat quarter for the background

Fabric for the moon

Fabric for the Werewolf

A very small amount of fabric for the eye

There are some large pieces in this block, so make sure to secure them when you work on this pattern.

Doctor Who Along Giveaway-1

We are now at almost 250 participants on the Doctor.Who.Along Flickr Group.  You are doing such wonderful work on your blocks from the QAL, as well as sharing them on the group and encouraging each other.  I know a few of you are even learning paper piecing with this QAL!  I can’t believe how much our favorite Doctor inspires us in every way!!

It’s time for me to do a giveaway, namely, this bundle of eight fat quarters.  If you subscribe to my blog, you will be included in the drawing.  If you are already a subscriber, please leave a comment below, and you will be included as well.  You can get additional entries for posting about this QAL on Facebook and Pinterest.  Make sure to leave a comment here for each post you make.   I will announce the winner with the block announcement on August 6th.

Subscribed via email. After the Tardis, I think this is my next favourite block…I’d better get moving and catch up with my piecing!

I thought I’d already subscribed as I follow Trillium. All done now! I’m collecting blocks but not making as I’m a bit scared of paper piecing still, even though Caroline has been encouraging. A Friday night sew along project might be the go, I think :).
    Cheers, Robyn

I was already following you on RSS, but I’ve taken the opportunity to subscribe. And post on Facebook ( You can bribe me with the possibility of fat quarters any time.

I love this block. I’m not quite ready to start as I ran out of background for my Bad Wolf block and then got a stomach bug, so no sewing for me for the last week. But I got more fabric today and hopefully I’ll be feeling better soon (and be able to get around my son’s Lego to reach the sewing machine; we share a playroom/sewing room and right now you can see the carpet for coloured blocks).

  16. Kristel says:

Despite that episode, I don’t really associate werewolves with Doctor Who at all (have they done vampires? that one wouldn’t stick the landing either, even if they’re alienish ones, like that lady who sucked blood through a straw, I suppose :D), but if I ever have a need for a werewolf block, I totally know where I’d come because that looks fantastic!

Would love to be considered for the free bundle of fat quarters please. Where did you get the moon fabric from? I think I just have to buy some now! I am USA bound next Monday to stay with my son on Cape Cod. My first point of call will be the fantastic shop ‘Tumbleweed Quilts,’ to hunt for space themed fabric. Not much to be found in my local shops here in the UK. Also, the fabric is cheaper on your side of the Atlantic.

Now off to watch the Tooth and Claw episode again–all this bother about whether or not Kate and William’s baby will be a boy or a girl, shouldn’t they be wondering if he or she will be a werewolf? Just sayin’….
