Doctor Who QAL – Vashta Nerada

Vashta Nerada Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

“Daleks, aim for the eyestalk. Sontarans, back of the neck. Vashta Nerada, run. Just run.”

We had River Song’s Diary as the last block and this week we have the reason for the Doctor and River Song’s encounter.  I find the concept of Vashta Nerada intriguing and terrifying at the same time – specially considering I have tons of books all over my place, in every single room!

You will need these fabrics to make this block –

1 fat quarter for the background

Some black for inside the helmet, nose and eye sockets

Cream for the skull

Dark, medium and light grey for the helmet

Tiny bit of green

Small amount of teal

White for the spacesuit

Bluish-grey for the flaps on the spacesuit

Thank you, everyone, for joining in and sewing along.  We are loving the blocks you are making on the Doctor.Who.Along Flickr Group!

Thanks, friend! It’s from a particularly scary Doctor Who episode, and now it is going to be on my quilt. I do need to figure out how my wheels turn! LOL!!

  7. Cheryl says:

  8. Wow. Just wow. I had to pick my jaw up off of the floor to type this. That is seriously amazing!!!

  9. So cool! My niece is really into Dr. Who and I, unfortunately, am a bad Aunt and I know nothing about Dr. Who. I would love to make her something with one of these patterns. Can you suggest one? (She is 16 and has invested a significant amount of time in watching the history of Dr. Who). Thanks!

    • Soma Acharya says:

Oh, you are the coolest aunt to think of making a Doctor Who article for her. The Tardis is definitely THE Doctor Who block to make, it’s very iconic.
The Cyberman, the Dalek and the Weeping Angel are classic monsters in the series. Weeping Angel is probably going to be the most difficult block to make.
If you want something from the classic Doctor Who, then you can’t go wrong with the fourth Doctor Scarf and the K9 blocks.
I wanted to give you a few options. Let me know if you need anything else.

      Happy sewing,

  10. OMG. Scary but fabulous.
