Almost a year from the time when Caroline and I started planning the Doctor Who Quilt Along, the Doctor Who quilt top is finally done! I was so busy with the quilt along, I never paid any attention to the colors for sashing. I had a few ideas, but nothing definitive.
To narrow down my choices, I picked out four blocks featuring different colors and placed them on the sashing fabric candidates. Since a lot of my blocks have greys and blues in them, I didn’t care to use the same colors for sashing. Also, they made the quilt top look very weighty. I had some of this Stonehenge fabric which always makes me think of a nebula. Once I placed the blocks on it, I fell in love with the combination. It really felt like the Doctor’s journey though time and space.
After doing a little bit of math, I decided I really didn’t want to add extra wide borders around the blocks to make a queen-size quilt. So I sewed 2″ sashes with the Stonehenge fabric and then a 4″ border with the blue scroll fabric all around.
Here it is, my Doctor Who quilt-top! The finished size is 66″ x 80.” That is perfect for me because I usually end up taking my quilt to bed after it’s become all nice and toasty from my snuggling under it on the sofa.
Caroline and I have been working on this for very close to a year now and it has been a lot of work. Caroline is a really fantastic partner; she helped me run the quilt along seamlessly.
Caroline and I are each doing a giveaway to wrap up this quilt along. I am giving away a set of 6 fat quarters. My giveaways are for my followers only, so leave a comment and let me know how you follow my blog and you will be entered in my giveaway. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, March 11th.
