Doctor Who QAL – Gallifrey And A Giveaway

Gallifrey Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

“We used to call it the shining world of the Seventh System, on the continent of Wild Endeavour, in the mountains of Solace and Solitude, there stood the citadel of the Time Lords.”

Since the Doctor does it the best, I let him describe his home planet.  Such a beautiful place it must have been!  When I heard the doctor describing Gallifrey for the very first time, I wanted to make this block for the Doctor Who quilt.

I used all warm colors for my block –

1 fat quarter for the background

3 shades for the citadel – I used a deep red, brown and copper

Tiny amount of black fabric

Slowly but surely I’m getting the blocks made, and I am hoarding an amazing selection of background fabrics along the way! Thanks for the brilliant blocks – it’s going to turn into a brilliant heirloom!

I was pointed towards this by a very good friend of mine, who quilts a lot, because I’m a massive DW fan.. I’ve been faithfully downloading each pattern, with the intention of making the quilt next year (hopefully) – as I’ve never attempted anything like this before, I’m hoping that the fact that it’s something I’m so interested in will keep me determined to do it!!
Would absolutely LOVE to win the giveaway gifts – I keep on looking longingly at River’s diary.. I have a thing for notebooks too!!
Can’t wait for the next installment of the QAL… and looking forward to diving headfirst into the world of paper piecing next year!! :)

I discovered the Doctor Who QAL courtesy of Craftsy. My niece is quite a seamstress, a HUGE Doctor Who fanatic and she’s also graduating from high school in the spring. My Christmas present to her is going to be all the patterns so she can piece her own Doctor Who quilt to her specifications and in her own color scheme. I and my sister and step-mom will be along for the ride to support her and help her, but this really will be something for her. I’d love to be able to include the journal and key ring to make the present that much “more” for her!

  5. AJ says:

I’m so excited about the quilt. I started out strong but have had to switch over to other projects needing my attention. I also was curious how many squares you are planning for the quiltalong, if you are willin to comment. Thanks!

    I’m now subscribing…awesome quilt!

  7. VickiT says:

I have been a follower of your blog for quite some time now. I would be thrilled to win this prize. To be totally truthful, I am not making this quilt yet but will be doing it next year to finish as a gift for my oldest son’s birthday in Sept. He just LOVES Doctor Who so I know he’d love this quilt and these prizes as well. I’ll understand if you want to give the prize to those who are doing this quilt right now if that disqualifies me although I hope not. Thank you either way for such an awesome giveaway.

OMG I have loved being involved in this and hang out for each new block! I grew up watching Doctor who and now enjoy siting with my five converted doctor who freak kids! It is only one of about three programs that we all watch together ( survivor is another) and that is why I love it. Four girls and one boy and they all love Doctor who! They range in age from 21 to 12 so I think it it so special that it appeals to all ages and 30 years after I began watching it. It is timeless just like the Time Lord himself! Thank you for your fantastic designs.

I’m registered. I just stumbled onto this blog quite by accident. I have not a clue about who or what Dr. Who is…except that my DDIL grew up on Dr. who, and now does Dr. who marathons with my DGDs! My son may or may not be so addicted! I have a feeling, she might grow to love me if I made the DDIL a Dr. Who block….and some more too!

  15. Jaclyn Reynolds says:

    New subscriber!

  16. Bronwyn says:

I’ve subscribed. This QAL has been fantastic! I am very behind but the blocks Will Get Made! This quilt is for my Dr Who loving daughter, who visibly wriggles with delight when I make one more block. I’ve bought the backing fabric for it already, which she loved, so one more Score!!

  17. KaranC says:

Having grown up with Dr Who as a huge part of my childhood it is amazing for me to see my own children so immersed in the many worlds and forms of The Doctor. This quilt is so exciting, cannot wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work!
You may be interested in this – I read this quote recently: What are the three words every girls wants to hear – no its not ‘I love you’ its ‘I’m the Doctor”! Say no more!

  18. Pam Sibson says:

You know I am a BIG fan – I love the blocks and the whole idea.
My life revolves around the latest block and making it, then waiting for the next block.
I will be sooo sad when it ends – maybe it will be time for a re-generation and we can all start again
