Doctor Who QAL – Vashta Nerada

Vashta Nerada Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

“Daleks, aim for the eyestalk. Sontarans, back of the neck. Vashta Nerada, run. Just run.”

We had River Song’s Diary as the last block and this week we have the reason for the Doctor and River Song’s encounter.  I find the concept of Vashta Nerada intriguing and terrifying at the same time – specially considering I have tons of books all over my place, in every single room!

Doctor Who QAL – River Song’s Diary

River Song's Diary Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

“Spoilers!”

Can’t have a Doctor Who quilt without River Song’s diary!  I love Caroline’s pattern for this block.  For continuity, I used the same fabric for the diary that I used for the Tardis.  This background fabric did everything but call my name out loud to be used on this block.  The colors are so much like the colors you see in the photos of nebulae, perfect for a traveler across time and space!  Even the fabric I used for the pages has a bit vintage, starry feel.  You are going to have a  lot of fun making this one.

Doctor Who QAL – Hello Sweetie

Hello Sweetie Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

“The writing – the graffiti – Old High Gallifreyan… the lost language of The Timelords. There were days, there were many days, these words could burn stars, and raise up empires, and topple Gods.”

“What does this say?”  –  “Hello sweetie.”

The familiar greeting has made its way into the Doctor Who quilt along.  Whenever you hear those two words, you know that trouble’s not far behind since trouble and River Song are synonymous.  This is “Hello Sweetie” in old high Gallifreyan.

You might need a little more than a fat quarter of fabric for the background of this block.

There are twenty runes.  Apart from a few, most of them are very easy to sew.  Each one sits in its own square.  If you want to, you can substitute any rune with a blank fabric. But a fair warning – it’s won’t say hello sweetie though and we don’t know what will happen if the doctor doesn’t get his message!

Looking forward to seeing your blocks on the Doctor.Who.Along Flickr Group.

Doctor Who QAL – Ood

Ood Doctor Who Quilt Pattern

I realized while working on this block that every single episode with an Ood in it belongs in my favorites.  I made mine with green eyes from the episode “The Doctor’s Wife”.  I love Neil Gaiman’s writing, so no surprise that it’s one of my all-time favorite episodes.  This block, made from Caroline’s pattern, will have a special place in my Doctor Who quilt.
